Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine, sterile, single use and disposable needles into specific acupuncture points along the body’s many energy pathways (meridians) the normal flow of energy (Qi) through the body. You can visualise meridians like rivers coursing their way through the body. From time to time something might block the flow of the river or there may not be enough water within the river itself. Acupuncture aims to get these rivers flowing normally again!

You can also think of acupuncture as a messaging or information system for your body. Each needle acts as a specific instruction for your body to generate a response. Your body is an incredibly intelligent and resilient thing. If you think about the last time you cut yourself, then you wouldn’t have put much conscious though into healing it. Your body just gets on with it. However occasionally things go wrong, and your body can’t deal with injury or illness in the way that it should. That’s where acupuncture can provide a bit of encouragement and guidance to the body.

During an acupuncture treatment your practitioner may also employ other techniques such as cupping, moxabustion, electro-stimulation, massage and gua sha.

Your practitioner may also recommend the use of Chinese Herbal Medicine to supplement and enhance the effects of acupuncture treatment.
