Fertility Support
Trying to conceive can be one of the most emotionally charged experiences in a person’s life. Whether you’re just starting out, you’ve been trying for a while, or you’re navigating assisted reproduction, the process brings its own pressures, and your body and mind are carrying all of it.
Chinese Medicine has a long tradition of supporting people through the fertility process. Treatment focuses on your overall health and wellbeing: managing stress, supporting energy, improving sleep, and helping your body function at its best during a time that can be physically and emotionally demanding.
My clinic is a calm, supportive space for anyone on a fertility journey, regardless of your path to parenthood.
Supporting Your Health During the Fertility Process
In Chinese Medicine, reproductive health is understood as part of your overall health. When the body is well-rested, well-nourished, and managing stress effectively, it’s in a better position to do what it needs to do.
Treatment looks at the whole picture. For people with ovaries, I look at menstrual cycle health, energy, digestion, stress, sleep, and circulation, all of which contribute to how the body functions overall. For people with testes, I look at energy, circulation, stress, and the internal patterns that may be relevant to reproductive wellbeing. In both cases, the focus is on supporting your health as a whole rather than targeting reproduction in isolation.
This approach works alongside the guidance you’re receiving from your fertility specialist, GP, or other health professionals. Chinese Medicine complements conventional fertility care rather than replacing it.

What Treatment Looks Like
Treatment is tailored to you and your partner (if relevant). I’ll take a detailed health history, ask about your current health concerns, and look at the broader patterns that may be influencing how you’re feeling.
Acupuncture is the core of most treatment plans. It works by calming the nervous system, supporting circulation, and helping the body manage the physical and emotional demands of the fertility process. Many people find that regular acupuncture during this time helps with stress, sleep, and general resilience. Treatments can be timed around key points in your cycle or your ART schedule where relevant.
Chinese herbal medicine may be used alongside acupuncture to provide daily support. Formulas are tailored to your individual pattern and may be used to support areas like energy, stress, digestion, and hormonal health. Herbal prescriptions are adjusted as your health shifts, allowing treatment to respond to where you are in the process.
I may also recommend dietary and lifestyle adjustments based on your Chinese Medicine pattern. These are specific, practical changes that support your general health: managing stress load, adjusting exercise intensity, supporting digestion, and making targeted dietary shifts based on your individual presentation.
Alongside IVF, IUI & Other Assisted Reproduction
Many health practitioners may recommend acupuncture as an adjunct treatment that may assist during IVF, IUI, or other assisted reproductive treatments. There is continuing research into how acupuncture can support the effectiveness of fertility treatment, and systematic reviews of clinical trials have found beneficial effects when acupuncture is used alongside IVF (Quan et al, 2022). You should consult your treating fertility specialist about how acupuncture may be able to help you.
For the person going through ovarian stimulation, egg collection, or embryo transfer, acupuncture may help with managing stress, physical discomfort, and general wellbeing at each stage of the process. Treatments can be timed around your cycle and coordinated with your clinic’s schedule. Acupuncture can also be used during the two-week wait to support relaxation and balance.
For the partner contributing sperm, the ART process carries its own pressures that are often overlooked. Acupuncture can support overall health and wellbeing during this time, including areas that may be relevant to reproductive health. It also provides a space to focus on your own needs rather than feeling like a bystander in someone else’s treatment.
For many people, acupuncture during ART provides something that’s hard to quantify: a space to slow down, check in with your body, and feel supported during what can be a stressful and uncertain time. That applies equally to both partners.
I’m happy to work alongside your fertility specialist or IVF clinic to ensure your care is coordinated and complementary.
Common Concerns I Work With
People come to me at all stages of their fertility journey. Some are preparing their health before trying to conceive. Others have been trying for months or years. Some are about to start IVF and want additional support. All of these are good starting points.
One thing I feel strongly about: fertility care should give equal attention to all partners involved. Too often the focus falls disproportionately on one person’s body, while the other is treated as an afterthought. In my clinic, both partners’ health and wellbeing are assessed and supported with the same level of care.
What commonly brings people in:
- Preparing for conception and optimising general health
- Concerns about menstrual cycle health
- Concerns about reproductive wellbeing (for all partners)
- Managing the emotional and physical demands of the fertility process
- Supporting wellbeing during IVF, IUI, or other ART cycles
- Stress, anxiety, and sleep difficulties related to the fertility journey
- Looking for complementary support alongside conventional fertility treatment
Reproductive health is one of my core areas of interest and further training, with a particular focus on supporting all partners through the fertility process. If you’re unsure whether acupuncture could help in your situation, get in touch. I’m always happy to talk through your circumstances and, where appropriate, coordinate with your fertility specialist.
If your concern isn’t listed, get in touch. I’m always happy to talk through your situation.
All Paths to Parenthood
Fertility care in my clinic is inclusive of all people, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, or relationship structure. Whether you’re a same-sex couple, a single parent by choice, or exploring donor conception, your path to parenthood is respected and supported here.
I also work collaboratively with GPs, fertility specialists, obstetricians, and other health professionals to ensure your care is coordinated. If you need referrals or want to integrate Chinese Medicine alongside an existing treatment plan, I can help with that.
You can read more about my approach to inclusive care on the LGBTQIA+ Health page.
