Sexual Health
Sexual health is one of those topics that touches everything. Energy, confidence, mood, relationships, body image, hormones, stress. When something feels off in this area, it can quietly affect how you feel in every other part of your life. And yet it’s one of the hardest things to bring up with a health professional.
I get it. These conversations take trust, and trust takes a space where you feel genuinely safe. My clinic is that space. You can be direct about what’s going on, ask the questions you’ve been sitting on, and know that you’ll be met with respect, discretion, and zero judgement.
In Chinese Medicine, sexual health is understood as part of your overall vitality. It’s connected to your energy reserves, your hormonal rhythms, your nervous system, and your emotional state. When the broader system is working well, sexual wellbeing tends to follow. When something is off internally, whether that’s stress, fatigue, hormonal shifts, or an underlying pattern of depletion, sexual function and desire are often among the first things to be affected.
A Whole-Body Approach
Chinese Medicine doesn’t isolate sexual health from the rest of the body. Libido, arousal, comfort, and function are all influenced by the same internal systems that govern your energy, your sleep, your hormones, and your stress response. This means that addressing the underlying patterns often has a broader effect than targeting the symptom alone.
For example, someone experiencing low libido alongside fatigue and poor sleep is presenting a different picture from someone with performance anxiety and muscular tension in the pelvic area. In Chinese Medicine, these are distinct patterns requiring different treatment strategies. That level of individualisation is one of the strengths of this approach.
Sexual health concerns can also be influenced by medication (including antidepressants, blood pressure medication, and hormone therapy), life stage transitions, surgical recovery, or the emotional weight of navigating identity and relationships. All of these factors are part of the clinical picture, and all of them inform how I approach your care.

What Treatment Looks Like
Treatment starts with a conversation. I’ll ask about your health history, your current concerns, and the broader context: your energy, your stress, your sleep, your hormones, and anything else that’s relevant. Nothing is off limits, and you set the pace for what you’re comfortable discussing.
Acupuncture is the core of most treatment plans. It works by calming the nervous system, improving circulation, and helping the body regulate its own internal rhythms. For sexual health specifically, treatment may focus on areas like pelvic circulation, hormonal support, nervous system regulation, or releasing tension patterns that are contributing to discomfort or reduced function.
Chinese herbal medicine can be especially useful for sexual health concerns. Formulas are tailored to your individual pattern and may be used to support areas like energy, hormonal health, and overall vitality. Herbal medicine provides daily support between acupuncture sessions, which can be particularly valuable when addressing patterns that have built up over time.
I may also suggest practical adjustments to lifestyle, diet, or stress management based on your Chinese Medicine pattern. These are specific to you, grounded in what I’m seeing clinically, and designed to support the bigger picture of your health.
Common Concerns
People come to me with a wide range of sexual health concerns. Some have been dealing with something for a long time and have run out of other options. Others are noticing changes and want to address them early. Some just want to feel more like themselves again. All of these are good reasons to start.
What commonly brings people in:
- Low libido or loss of interest in sex
- Erectile changes or difficulty with arousal
- Discomfort or pain during sex
- Pelvic tension or pelvic floor dysfunction
- Sexual confidence, body image, or performance concerns
- Changes related to medication, hormones, or life stage
- Sexual wellbeing during or after gender-affirming care
- Fatigue, stress, or emotional strain affecting sexual health
This page is for everyone. Sexual health concerns affect people of all genders, orientations, and relationship structures. Whatever your situation, you’ll be met with the same level of care and respect. You can read more about my approach to inclusive care on the LGBTQIA+ Health page.
If your concern isn’t listed, get in touch. I’m always happy to talk through whether acupuncture could help.
Discretion, Respect, and Collaborative Care
I understand that sexual health concerns can feel vulnerable to discuss. Everything shared in my clinic stays in my clinic. Sessions are delivered with sensitivity, and your comfort and autonomy are the priority at every stage.
I also work collaboratively with GPs, urologists, gynaecologists, psychologists, sex therapists, and other health professionals. If you’re already receiving care for a sexual health concern, acupuncture can sit alongside that without conflict. And if you need referrals, I can help point you in the right direction.
